9 Must-Have Gluten-Free Travel Snacks For Your Next Trip

Want to know the best gluten-free travel snacks to bring with you the next time you go away? These are the easy to travel with gluten-free snacks you need to know about.

Gluten-Free Travel Snacks

Although traveling with a gluten allergy/sensitivity can be challenging at times, it doesn’t have to take anything away from your trip! If you’re anything like me, you are doing all the research you possibly can to make sure you are very prepared.

As someone with a gluten allergy myself, I am giving you the best gluten-free travel snacks that I don’t travel without. None of which have to be refrigerated.

After learning about these gluten-free travel snack ideas, you are going to be a pro and extra prepared when you take your next trip!

This post is all about the best gluten-free travel snacks that every gluten intolerant person should know about.

Best Gluten-Free Travel Snacks:

1. Gluten-Free Trail Mix

Oh how I love trail mix, it’s healthy, so easy to personalize to your liking, and it travels so well. You can obviously just buy a pre-made trail mix, but it will likely contain at least one thing you aren’t crazy about…and why not love everything in it! There’s no need to pick out that one thing you don’t like!

If you choose to buy a pre-made trail mix, make sure that the label states that it’s gluten-free.

If you want to create your own mix, head over to the grocery or bulk store and buy the ingredients you like. Then you can use sealable snack bags to package your unique combination!

Most trail mix ingredients in their natural state are gluten-free. However, some may contain gluten if they have added ingredients. Always check the label. Some manufacturers may process these ingredients in facilities that also process foods that contain gluten, leading to cross-contamination. Just some things to be aware of, especially if you have celiac disease.

Some ingredient ideas to include in your trail mix are:

-Nuts: pecans, walnuts, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, and macadamia nuts.

-Seeds: pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds.

-Dried Fruit: raisins, dried apples, mango, cranberries, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, banana chips, apricots, dates, and figs.

While any of these things travel well and are good on their own, why not put together your own personal trail mix? Just as a side note, adding chocolate chips to your trail mix really takes it to the next level. That is of course if you like chocolate. It just adds that little something extra!

2.Gluten-Free Bars

You can’t go wrong with a good gluten-free bar. There are so many good ones to choose from. Again, it’s always important to look on the packaging for gluten-free certification and to read the label carefully.

If you are good in the kitchen and have some time on your hands, making your own is always a good option too. That way you know exactly what’s in it and how it was made.

3.Gluten-Free Popcorn

Popcorn is one of the best gluten-free snacks for kids when traveling. Although most adults love it too! It can prove to be a little messy, but it’s usually worth it.

Plain popcorn is naturally gluten-free, but you want to look out for gluten in some flavoured and store bought popcorn. Always check the label.

Popping and bagging your own in snack size bags at home is always a good option if you have the time. It’s a good way to control ingredients and avoid any cross contamination. And you can experiment with adding your own seasonings!

4.Hard Boiled Eggs

One of the best gluten-free snacks for the car is hard boiled eggs. You can take these on a plane as well, but be prepared to possibly get some looks as they can be quite smelly!

Hard boiled eggs can be a healthier choice for traveling and are quite filling. They are high in protein and therefore tend to keep you feeling full for a longer period of time.

5.Gluten-Free Jerky

Jerky is one of the best gluten-free snacks for the plane. It is compact and travels very well. It is also high in protein, so it definitely curves those hunger pains for a while.

Jerky is naturally gluten-free as it is simply dried meat. However, a lot of packaged jerky does contain gluten because of added flavor, seasonings and preservatives. You definitely need to be careful and make sure to read labels.

It is possible to make your own jerky, but it is quite time consuming.

6.Gluten-Free Crackers

I love traveling with gluten-free crackers. There are so many different kinds and they are almost like a thicker, healthier chip!

Crackers pack well in little sealed snack baggies that you can easily tuck into your purse. The only downfall is that they can get broken fairly easily. Consider a small hard shell Tupperware as a packing option.

7.Roasted chickpeas or Lentils

healthy gluten free travel snacks

Roasted chickpeas or lentils are a great snack for traveling. You can buy them pre-made or make them yourself.

These are a bit of a more uncommon snack…but they are healthy, inexpensive to make, and can actually be very pleasant tasting.

If you make these yourself, you can experiment with seasonings and different flavors. They can be sweet or savoury!

The easiest way to make these:

-Buy canned chickpeas or lentils

-Drain and give them a good rinse, dry thoroughly

-Throw them on a baking sheet with some parchment paper

-Season (as desired) evenly

-Then bake chickpeas at 400F in the oven for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally

-Or lentils at 300 F in the oven for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

8.Gluten-Free Pretzels

Pretzels are a good choice when it comes to gluten-free travel snacks as they are more durable than something like chips. They taste pretty good too!

Pretzels can also be broken up and added to trail mix if you’re looking for something else to add to your blend!

9.Gluten-free Cereal

If you’re looking for something quick and easy to throw into a snack bag to bring on your travels, gluten-free cereal might be perfect for you.

There is so much variety available here and who says you can’t eat cereal without milk! It’s an ideal snack to pick at any time you want a little snack.
