Will There Be Traveling in Heaven? 19 Biblical Clues That Suggest We Might Explore Eternity

Have you ever wondered if there will be traveling in Heaven? Although no one but God knows for sure, let’s explore some pretty convincing biblical reasons why traveling in heaven might just be part of our eternal adventure.

Will There Be Traveling in Heaven?

If you’re anything like me…a christian who loves discovering unique places, hidden gems, and the stories that come with them…then you’ve probably wondered this beautiful question: Will there be traveling in heaven?

The thought of staying in one place forever, even paradise, feels limiting and is quite hard to fathom. I crave wonder and the privilege of being able to stumble upon a serene, unexpected location. Will that hunger for exploration continue in eternity? What does the Bible actually say?

While the Bible doesn’t give a direct answer to this question, it does offer fascinating clues that strongly suggest there could be movement, discovery, and travel in heaven. It’s food for thought at the very least.

This post is all about exploring the very intriguing question ‘will there be traveling in heaven?’

So…Will There Be Traveling in Heaven? 19 Biblical Clues:

1. Heaven Is Described as a Real, Physical Place

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

— Philippians 3:20

Heaven is described as a city, a country, and even a kingdom…all of which imply geography and the potential to move around. Cities have streets. Countries have borders. If we’re to be citizens, wouldn’t that suggest that we belong and can go places?

Heaven isn’t a dreamy, floating existence in the clouds. It’s a real place…a new Earth and real places invite exploration!

2. The New Earth Will Replace the Old Earth

are we going to be able to fly in heaven

“Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…”

— Revelation 21:1

The term “New Earth” suggests a physical, renewed planet…not just a spiritual state. If it’s anything like our current Earth…minus the pain and brokenness…imagine the mountains, oceans, valleys, and towns to explore. We were created to be stewards of the Earth, and that purpose will likely continue.

This isn’t metaphorical according to the Bible. The New Earth will be a restored version of our current one, without decay, death, or disappointment. That means mountains to climb, rivers to cross, paths to wander…and likely places to travel.

3. Jesus Traveled After His Resurrection and So Might We

“While they were still talking… Jesus himself stood among them.”

— Luke 24:36

“He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”

— Acts 1:3

Jesus, in His resurrected body, moved from place to place, appearing and disappearing, walking, talking, and even eating. If our resurrection bodies are like His (Philippians 3:21), who’s to say we won’t travel freely as well?

Jesus’ resurrected body was able to walk, talk, eat, and move from place to place—sometimes instantly. If our heavenly bodies will be like His, it stands to reason we’ll be able to move freely and joyfully, too.

4. The Nations Will Walk by the Light of the New Jerusalem

will the new earth be like the old earth

“The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.”

— Revelation 21:24

This suggests interaction between regions. There are nations, rulers, and gifts being brought. Sounds a lot like cultural exchange and travel to me.

This implies cultural diversity, movement, and activity. People from different places will be bringing gifts, stories, and glory into the New Jerusalem. You can’t bring something from one place to another unless you’re, well…traveling.

5. We Were Created to Cultivate and Explore

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

— Genesis 2:15

God created humans to be active caretakers and explorers. Heaven won’t be about eternal lounging…it will most likely be about purposeful, joyful living. Exploration may be part of that calling.

6. People Will Come From All Directions

will humans ever be able to travel to another galaxy

“People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

— Luke 13:29

The mention of a good feast excites me! I really hope we get to enjoy food in its natural state in heaven…the way it was originally created and supposed to taste. I bet it will blow our minds!

This verse paints a beautiful picture of a gathering from all corners of the earth. If people are coming from different directions, they’re coming from somewhere and traveling to be together.

Heaven again seems to involve direction, movement, and gathering.

7. Nations, Places and Purpose

“…and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

— Revelation 22:2

The mention of nations implies distinct communities and places…plural and that they exist. That means travel between them would likely be a natural part of life. Exploring different nations on the New Earth may be part of the wonder and diversity of eternal life.

“…and His servants will serve Him.”

— Revelation 22:3

It seems we’ll have eternal purpose and activities to engage in, not eternal boredom.

We’ll likely have roles, tasks, and relationships…and that might include traveling to fulfill heavenly assignments, connect with others, or just marvel at God’s handiwork.

8. Heaven Will Have Time, Events, and Seasons

will there be travel on the new earth

“On each side of the river stood the tree of life… yielding its fruit every month.”

— Revelation 22:2

There are months in heaven! Seasons imply cycles, rhythms, and possibly festivals or gatherings, which means movement and meeting in different places…all which could include travel.

9. The Universe Might Be Ours to Explore

“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.”

— Psalm 147:4

Who’s to say God won’t let us explore the stars? He created a massive universe. Heaven may not be limited to Earth 2.0…it could mean eternal space exploration with no fuel limits, jet lag, or lost luggage!

10. Our Eternal Home Is a City — Not a Room

travel in heaven

“The city does not need the sun or the moon… for the glory of God gives it light.”

— Revelation 21:23

The New Earth is described with measurements (massive ones!) and gates on all sides. It’s not a small space. There will  likely be paths and avenues to other places in God’s renewed creation.

11. The Universe Declares God’s Glory—Will We Explore It?

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

— Psalm 19:1

The vastness of the universe may not be off-limits in eternity. We’ll have new bodies, no sin, and no fear. Could traveling through galaxies and star systems be part of God’s gift to the curious heart? Possibly, I like to think so!

12. Angels Travel — Why Wouldn’t We?

how will we travel in heaven

“Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”

— Hebrews 1:14

Angels seem to pop up all over—Bethlehem, the tomb, the road to Emmaus. Their ability to travel across space and time is clear. As redeemed, glorified beings, we may share in that freedom.

13. We Were Made to Explore and Steward

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

— Genesis 2:15

Before sin entered the world, work and exploration were good. Heaven doesn’t erase this—it redeems it. Imagine what it would be like to steward creation without stress or brokenness.

14. The Feast in Heaven Will Draw the Food Lovers and the Curious

will there be seasons in heaven

“Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”

— Revelation 19:9

Feasts are gatherings. And knowing my love for celebration, music, and yes, good food (always gluten-free for me!), this imagery makes me believe we’ll travel to heavenly parties, big and small.

15. Could Exploring be a Form of Worship?

“Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.”

— Psalm 111:2

To delight in God’s works is to see and experience them. That’s not passive, it’s immersive. In heaven, I’d like to think that exploration may be one of the ways we worship and discover God’s character.

16. Jesus Is Preparing “Many Rooms”

will there be travel in heaven

“My Father’s house has many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you.”

— John 14:2

“Many rooms” suggests variety—different living spaces, places to go. It doesn’t sound like one heavenly cul-de-sac. Maybe we’ll get to visit each other’s spaces, swap stories, and say, “You’ve got to see this sunset from my balcony!”

17. No Fatigue, No Fear, No Roadblocks

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”

— Isaiah 40:31

Can you imagine traveling without fatigue? No jet lag. No delays. No cramped airplane seats. No fear for your safety. Whether it’s walking, flying, or something even more celestial, movement will likely be effortless and joyful.

We’ll be energized, healthy, and strong…forever. That means travel won’t exhaust us. There will be no aging, aching joints, or airport security lines. Our love for movement will be unlimited and unhindered.

18. We’ll Be Known and Loved Everywhere We Go

will the new earth have countries

“Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:12

Travel on Earth is amazing, but sometimes anxiety-inducing…think language barriers, safety concerns, getting lost. In Heaven, you’ll never be a stranger. Everywhere you go, you’ll be welcomed, recognized, and cherished.

19. God’s Presence Isn’t Limited to One Spot

“The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”

— Habakkuk 2:14

God’s glory will be everywhere, it will fill the earth! So why would we stay put? We’ll want to go, see, rejoice, and marvel at His goodness expressed across the entire new creation.

So…Will There Be Traveling in Heaven?

While the Bible doesn’t offer a definitive answer to this question, these verses and themes suggest that it’s a definite possibility! It seems like Heaven will include movement, exploration, and joy-filled discovery. The biblical vision of eternity is one of life, diversity, worship, and wonder. And that sounds a lot like travel to me.

As a christian who loves to travel, I find comfort and excitement in the idea that God’s eternal home for us will be rich in variety, full of adventure, and better than anything we can possibly imagine!

Heaven is often misrepresented as an eternal sing-along in the clouds. But Scripture hints at something far deeper, more layered, and wildly engaging. A redeemed Earth. Glorified bodies. Communities. Travel. Exploration.

After digging in a bit together, I’d say yes, friend…I believe there’s a good chance you will be traveling in Heaven. Pack your curiosity. You’re going to need it!

This post was all about answering the burning question ‘will there be traveling in heaven?’
